The Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation has granted a donation for publishing the history of seafaring-related education in Kotka between 1868-2008.
The oldest still existing Finnish-language seafaring study programme was initiated in Vyborg and moved to Kotka after the Finnish Winter War (1939-40). The original purpose of the education institute was to serve the commercial seafaring needs of the Gulf of Finland and the entire country. The institute’s contribution to the emergence of Finnish-language study material in the field of seafaring is of particular significance.
The donation sum is EUR 16,000.
