What Do Stakeholders Think About Us? Highlights from the Spring 2025 Survey

In spring 2025, the Jane and Aatos Erkko Foundation carried out the first stakeholder survey in its history. As part of this effort, we asked for feedback from grant applicants over the past three years.

The results highlight the foundation’s quality and impact as its strongest attributes. A remarkable 81% of respondents felt that quality describes the foundation well or fairly well, while 75% said the same about impact. Long-term commitment ranked third, with 68% agreeing it reflects the foundation’s work.

In the open-ended responses, stakeholders emphasized the size of the grants, the strategy of supporting a few large projects, long-term commitment, impact, and the foundation’s significance for Finland’s science and arts sectors. International scope and support across different scientific and artistic fields also stood out.

At the same time, areas for improvement were identified -particularly transparency and openness. Nearly half of respondents (49%) said transparency describes the foundation only somewhat or not at all, while 44% said the same about openness. In open comments, these concerns were most often linked to the evaluation process and the lack of feedback.

We greatly value this feedback and have already started developing our practices in response. We will also continue to address the themes raised in the survey in upcoming newsletters and on our website.

The survey was conducted from April 28 to May 9, 2025.
